Systematic Review of the Effects of Sleep on Memory and Word Learning in Infancy

This systematic review surveyed research on the associations between sleep and memory processes involved in word learning infancy. We found only 16 studies that addressed this topic directly, identifying infant processes, identification of forms running speech, stabilization generalization new form–meaning associations. Some investigated changes brain responses after parameters during postlearning sleep. Others long-term effects sleeping patterns later vocabulary development. All but one these identified positive early childhood, extending similar findings from adults school-aged children. However, there remain several gaps current lexical development Future investigations should address for researchers to better understand create links language acquisition research.
